Douglas
Kirsch, MD - President
Elect
Dr. Douglas Kirsch
is a board-certified Neurologist and
Sleep Specialist, having trained at the Department of Neurology at the
University of Rochester and at the Sleep Disorders Center at the
University of
Michigan. Previously a faculty member at University
of Michigan, he returned to his home
town of Boston, where he is currently a Clinical
Instructor at Harvard Medical School
and is on staff at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Joining Sleep
HealthCenters in
2006,
his
current non-teaching roles are as the Regional Medical
Director of Sleep HealthCenters and Medical Director of
Sleep HealthCenters’
Medford facility. While his primary focus is on clinical work, he has
strong
interest in sleep medicine education and is the Course Director
of the
American Academy of Sleep Medicine’s Board Review Course and is currently the Chair of the APSS Program Committee for 2013-14.
Brian Murphy - Secretary/Treasurer
Brian
became a registered RPGST in 2006 and is at the MetroWest Sleep
Disorders Center in Natick, MA. Having spent 22 years in the US Navy as
an electrician and engineer, diagnostic troubleshooting has become
second nature to him. He currently is the manager at the MetroWest
Sleep Disorders Center and oversees two sites. His sleep interests are
in diagnostic equipment and development as well as helping patients with
compliance issues and equipment.
Sandra Horowitz,

I originally trained as a
Neurologist and
Epileptologist at the Montreal Neurological Institute of McGill
University, where seizure surgery was pioneered. I then was director of
the Sleep Center at UMASS in Worcester, then St. Vincents Hospital
(Sleep disorder Center of Central New England), I established the sleep
center at Metrowest Medical Center and am now regional Medical Director
for Sleep HealthCenters in Central MA. I have an appointment at UMASS
as Associate Professor of Neurology and in the Harvard Division of
Sleep Medicine as Clinical instructor. My sleep interests include
studying the mild sleep apnea patient and improving CPAP compliance. My
goal is to make the MA Sleep Society a viable, productive, continuing
resource for sleep professionals.
Board Members:
Gail Demko, DMD
B. Gail Demko, DMD started fabricating oral devices for the
treatment of OSA in 1989 when she practiced full time at Beth Israel
Hospital. In 1997, she
became the first dentist in the US
to limit her practice to this area of expertise. She passed her certification
from the AADSM (then SDDS) in 1999 and became the expert advisor to the FDA in
the area of oral device therapy for the treatment of OSA in 2004, a position
she still holds. She is now president-elect of the American Academy
of Dental Sleep Medicine, editor of Dialogue, on the editorial board of Sleep
and Breathing and is asked to referee articles in her field for Springer
Publications. She maintains a full time practice dedicated to the treatment of
OSA and snoring in Weston, MA.
Craig Canapari, MD
Dr. Canapari completed his Residency and Internship in Pediatrics at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He further continued his academic career with a Fellowship in Pediatric Pulmonology at Massachusetts General. Dr. Canapari is an instructor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and he offers his expertise on obstructive sleep apnea to Fellows and Residents in Pediatrics. Dr. Canapari currently is the Medical Director of the Pediatric Sleep Laboratory at the Massachusetts Ear and Eye Institute. He also leads a number of projects exploring obstructive sleep apnea, head and neck burns in children and sleep quality in muscular dystrophy.
Carolyn D'Ambrosio, MD
Carolyn D'Ambrosio, MD, is Director of the Center for Sleep Medicine at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston, MA, where she also serves as Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program. She currently holds a teaching appointment as Associate Professor of Medicine in the Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine Division at Tufts University School of Medicine, where she received the esteemed Award to Faculty for Notable Teaching. She has served as Chair for the Sleep-Related Breathing Disorders Section of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and is an active member of professional societies including the Massachusetts Sleep Society and the American Thoracic Society.
Avi Almozlino, MD
Dr. Almozlino obtained his M.D at Sackler School of Medicine, Tel-Aviv University in 1983. He completed internship, residency and fellowship at BU Medical Center. He is the current Chair of Neurology at Newton Wellesley Hospital, where he has worked for 21 years. He is the current President of the Massachusetts Neurological Association
